“ Studies have found that coloring can have a similar psychological response in the brain as the act of meditating by reducing outside noise and allowing for focus…The results found all physical indictors of anxiety reduced when coloring. and that perceptions of anxiety lowered as well. ”
Observing flowers is a celebration of beauty and life. Each bloom invites us to pause and appreciate its unique colors, shapes, and scents. Flowers, in their delicate fragility, remind us of the transient nature of existence, urging us to notice and be in the present moment. Their quiet presence teaches us to observe the world around us more closely and to bring attention to the small details that often go unnoticed. In honoring flowers, we also honor the interconnectedness of all living things, recognizing how each plays a part in the tapestry of life. Let us embrace this experience, allowing the simplicity and elegance of flowers to inspire us to see the world with fresh eyes.
Depth psychologist Susan Rowland asserts that “how we observe affects what we observe,” while French painter Claude Monet expressed that “to see, we must forget the name of the thing we are looking at.” We will learn to observe ourselves and our surroundings, and what better subject to engage with than flowers? Through creative rituals, we will explore diverse mediums, tools, and mark-making techniques, allowing our artistic spirit to flourish in the garden as we connect with our senses and discover what is blooming within us.
Join us on a 10-week journey that will guide you across the creative threshold in a slow, simple, and welcoming manner. Whether you participate live on Zoom or via recordings, we will dedicate 2 hours each week to create together as a community, meditate on colors, observe flowers, welcome our imaginations, and honor creativity as a sacred practice.
