Learn to Navigate the Nervous System by Translating your Feelings Creatively.
Our cultural and social upbringing helped mold how we categorize our feelings. It taught us how we should express them or when those feelings were unwelcome. Many of us have learned the binary model of emotions: acceptable/unacceptable, good/bad, and appropriate/ inappropriate. But what happens when suppressing an emotion is no longer available? Or when we can no longer pretend that “all is well” yet asking for help or support has been labeled “weak?” In other words, we have seldom been asked to translate our feelings, welcome them, or be curious about what a particular emotion might tell us.
In this workshop, participants will explore the nervous system in a creative and embodied way. Learning the parts of the nervous system can empower you to notice your personal patterns, self-regulate and co-regulate. Furthermore exploring the nuances of your feelings through the arts (writing, drawing, sound, and movement) participants will be better equipped to contemplate these questions:
• What does compassion have to offer?
• How might I move with frustration?
• Is lament advising me?
This workshop is for any, and everyone… especially those who want to be in a supportive community where we can collectively re-imagine a relationship with ALL our feelings—and welcome them. Our aim is to support each other in navigating the mandala of emotions.
